Youtube Shorts Fund Eligibility Requirements

To be eligible for a bonus from the YouTube Shorts Fund:

  • Channels need to have uploaded at least one eligible Short in the last 180 days.
  • Channels need to abide by YouTube’s Community Guidelinescopyright rules, and monetization policies.
  • Channels uploading videos with watermarks or logos from third-party social media platforms, non-original videos (for example, unedited clips from movies or TV shows), or videos reuploaded from other creator’s channels will not be eligible.
  • Creators must be in one of these countries/regions:
    • Brazil
    • India
    • Indonesia
    • Japan
    • Mexico
    • Nigeria
    • Russia
    • South Africa
    • United Kingdom
    • United States
    Note: We plan to expand eligibility to more countries/regions.
  • Creators must be 13 or older in the United States, or the age of majority in their country/region.
  • Creators 13–18 years old must have a parent or guardian accept terms and set up an AdSense account for payment when one isn’t already linked to their channel.

Channels do not need to be currently monetizing on YouTube to be eligible. Creators in the YouTube Partner Program and channels that are affiliates under a Multi-Channel Network (MCN) are also eligible.

  • Now, let’s walk through what happens if you’re eligible. First, you’ll need to claim your Shorts bonus. If you’re eligible for a Shorts bonus you’ll get an email and a notification from YouTube around the 8th–10th of the month asking you to claim your bonus.

  • This is really important because if you don’t claim your bonus by the 25th of the month, it may expire. And keep in mind that you’ll need to claim your Shorts bonus each month that you’re eligible for one.

To claim the bonus, You’ll need to complete two steps.

  1. Accept terms
  2. Link an active AdSense account to your Channel
  • If you already have an AdSense account linked to your YouTube channel once you accept the terms you’ll be all set and your bonus will officially be claimed.
  • If you don’t have a linked AdSense account you’ll be asked to link an existing account or to create a new one. The email or YouTube notification will lead you through the process.
  • It can take a few days to link an AdSense account to your channel. But once it’s complete, YouTube sends you an email confirming whether your bonus has been claimed. 

How to Create Youtube Shorts Video

  • YouTube Shorts can be up to 60 seconds in length. A 60-second YouTube short can be several 15-second videos combined or one continuous video.
  • The videos must be shot in a vertical orientation.
  • The video can use audio from YouTube’s library or other videos but only for up to 15 seconds.

Before making YouTube Shorts, you must download and install the YouTube app on your device.

  • Step 1: Sign in to the YouTube app on your smartphone (Android or iPhone).
  • Step 2: Tap on the ‘Create’ icon, which looks like a plus symbol given in the bottom center.
  • Step 3: A pop-up will appear. In the pop-up menu, click on the option ‘Create a Short’, which has a camera icon next to it.

Step 5: Once this is done, you’ll be redirected to the YouTube Shorts recording page. YouTube Shorts recording length is set to 15 seconds by default. However, you can change it to 60 seconds by tapping on the number ‘15’ given above the record button.

Step 6: Now, tap on the ‘Speed’ icon given on the right side of the page. This allows you to speed up or slow down the recording. Just below this option, you can even set a timer for the camera to start, eliminating the need for you to push the timer manually. Furthermore, you also get the option of adding various visual filters to your recording.

Step 7: Click on the ‘Record’ button. You must keep in mind that tapping it again will stop the recording. Therefore, you can tap again to record your next segment in the same video. Also, tapping the ‘Undo’ button given at the bottom will delete only the last segment and not the whole video. Similarly, the ‘Redo’ button will return that segment back to the video.

Step 8: Once you’re done recording, tap the ‘check mark’ icon given on the bottom-right to preview your video. You can even add text, music, and filters. Then, click on the ‘Next button.

Step 9: Next, add a title for your video and adjust sharing settings accordingly. You can also add the #shorts hashtag to the title or description to ensure that it is being seen and promoted with YouTube’s other Shorts videos.

Step 10: Lastly, click on the ‘Upload’ button to add it to your YouTube.
